17. Molcajete Typeface

From Studies of molcajete letters R, O, &M.
The Molcajete is an integral part of Mexican cuisine and culture made up of a mortar and pestle. It has been used by the Aztecs and Mayans for thousands of years to grind various foods. To render of this typeface I used photogrammetry to capture its volcanic rock (basalt) texture. Using the 3D render I developed a methodology to capture the shaping of the letter forms to be used for print and AR.
